#### 17 Grant or refusal of permit 17 Grant or refusal of permit > > (1) The Secretary may, on application, grant or refuse a permit. > > > (2) The Secretary may refuse a permit— > > > > > (a) if the application for the permit does not comply with any requirement imposed by or under this Act, or > > > > > (b) on any grounds prescribed by the regulations. > > > (3) The Secretary must refuse a permit if the applicant is not a suitable person to hold the permit. > > > (4) The Secretary is to give the applicant notice in writing of a decision to grant or refuse a permit. > > > (5) If the Secretary fails to give an applicant for a permit notice of a decision to grant or refuse the permit within the period prescribed by the regulations, the Secretary is taken to have refused to grant the permit.
