#### 165 Commonwealth‑State offshore area—provisional renewal of retention licence If the Designated Authority for a Commonwealth‑State offshore area refers the application to the Joint Authority under section 164, the Joint Authority may: (a) provisionally renew the licence; or (b) subject to section 168, refuse to renew the licence. > Note 1: Under section 155, the renewal of the licence cannot be effective before it is registered (see section 334 for registration). The renewal will not be registered until it has been properly accepted (see section 173 for proper acceptance). > Note 2: Under section 177, new conditions may be imposed on renewal.
