Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act authorises a one-off payment of £4,500 (roughly equivalent to several years' wages at the time) to the widow of Major-General Sir William Throsby Bridges, a senior Australian Army officer who died during the First World War.

Key points:

The money is paid from the Commonwealth's Consolidated Revenue Fund (the government's main bank account), which this Act specifically unlocks for this purpose
The payment replaces any ongoing pension the widow would normally be entitled to under the War Pensions Act 1914-1915
Once this lump sum is paid, the Commonwealth's financial obligations to the widow are finished (the Act says the liability is "determined", meaning ended)

This is an example of a 'private Act' — legislation that benefits a specific individual rather than making general rules for the whole community.
