Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Act authorises the Governor in Council to grant leases of a specific parcel of public land in the township of Newhaven that had been permanently reserved for public purposes. It does this by excepting that land from section 18 of the Land Act 1958 and directing leases to be made under section 134 of that Act (s2).

In practice the executive (Governor in Council) decides whether leases are offered; prospective lessees take leases on the terms and obligations set out in the Land Act and the lease instrument. The measure is narrowly focused on the land shown in the Schedule.
