Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This regulation cancels (repeals) a long list of outdated rules about ship compasses that were made between 1944 and 1991.

What it does:

Removes 21 separate older regulations (Statutory Rules) that governed compass requirements for vessels
Cleans up the statute book by removing superseded compass-related rules made under the Navigation Act 1912

Who it affects:

Ship owners, operators, and masters who were previously subject to these specific compass regulations
Maritime safety regulators

Why it matters: Compass technology and safety standards evolved significantly over the decades. This repeal removes redundant and outdated technical requirements, likely because they were replaced by more modern standards or consolidated into other regulations. It simplifies maritime compliance by removing old rules that are no longer relevant to modern navigation systems.
