#### 297 Powers of receiver to require assistance (1) The receiver may, with a view to the preservation of shipwrecked persons or of the wreck: (a) require such persons as he or she thinks necessary to assist the receiver; (b) require the master of any ship near at hand to give such aid with his or her men or ship as is in the master’s power; (c) require the use of any vehicle or draught animal that is near at hand. (2) No person shall refuse to comply with any such requisition. Penalty: $500. (3) Subsection (2) does not apply if the person has reasonable cause. > Note: A defendant bears an evidential burden in relation to the matter in subsection (3) (see subsection 13.3(3) of the Criminal Code).
