Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: This instrument repeals (cancels) a set of old regulations that once governed the Papua New Guinea Division of Australia's naval forces.

Background: Between 1966 and 1975, Australia maintained detailed regulations for how naval forces stationed in Papua New Guinea would operate. When Papua New Guinea became an independent nation in September 1975, these Australian regulations became obsolete.

What happens now: This repeal formally removes those outdated regulations from Australian law, effective 9 February 1976. It lists all 18 statutory instruments that are being abolished, ranging from the original 1966 regulations through various amendments made over the decade. This is essentially housekeeping—cleaning up the statute books by deleting military rules that no longer apply because Papua New Guinea now manages its own defence affairs.
