sec.213 Restriction on grant of permit for taking protected animals
The chief executive must not grant a research permit for a person to take a protected animal unless the chief executive is satisfied— the animal is to be taken, kept or used for research that is likely to make a significant contribution to community knowledge about the matter for which the research is carried out; and the animal would not be taken, kept or used for a commercial purpose; and it is necessary to take the animal from the wild, including, for example, because there are no animals of the same species in captivity that are available or appropriate for the research to be carried out under the permit.
