Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What it does

These regulations repeal the National Security (Aircraft Production) Regulations—wartime rules that controlled aircraft manufacturing during World War II.

Key details

Retroactive effect: The repeal took effect on 1 November 1946, even though the regulations were made on 4 December 1946. This backdating ensured the wartime controls ended as soon as possible after the war.
Housekeeping: This is part of post-war "demobilisation" of emergency laws. The National Security Act gave the government sweeping wartime powers; this instrument removes one specific set of those powers (aircraft production controls) now that the war is over.

Who it affects

Primarily aircraft manufacturers and the Department of Defence, though practically this removed bureaucratic restrictions on the aviation industry during the transition to peacetime production.

Why it matters

It formally ends government control over aircraft production, returning the industry to normal civilian regulation.
