Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: These regulations fix the amount of the National Residue Survey levy at 32 cents for each head of cattle exported from Australia (as applied under the parent Act). This is the specific sum of money that must be paid to the government by the exporter.

Who it affects: Cattle exporters, or any person who is legally responsible for the cattle at the time of export under the National Residue Survey (Cattle Export) Levy Act 1995.

Why it matters: The levy funds the National Residue Survey—a Commonwealth program that tests meat for chemical residues (such as pesticides, veterinary drugs, or environmental contaminants). This testing ensures Australian beef is safe to eat and meets the strict standards required by international trading partners, protecting market access for the beef industry.
