### 82 More than one registered operator > > (1)  If there are 2 registered operators of a motor vehicle, proceedings for a prescribed offence may be brought against one of those registered operators or against both of them jointly. > > > (2)  If there are 2 registered operators of a motor vehicle, a court may find the defendant or each of the defendants guilty of an offence if satisfied that – > > > > > > (a) an offence has been committed; and > > > > > > > (b) a defence is not established under [section 81(2)](#GS81@Gs2@EN) . > > > (3)  If a fine is imposed on 2 registered operators of a motor vehicle who have been found guilty of a prescribed offence, the total of any fines imposed in respect of that offence is not to exceed the maximum fine that could have been imposed if only one of them had been found guilty of that offence.
