4 Simplified outline

This instrument deals with a number of different matters concerning pharmaceutical benefits.

Part 2 defines pharmaceutical benefits, by identifying the drugs and medicinal preparations to which Part VII of the Act applies, and the forms, manners of administration and brands for those drugs and medicinal preparations. It also identifies the responsible person for brands and which brands are treated as equivalent to each other.

Part 3 deals with the rules for prescribing pharmaceutical benefits, including who can write prescriptions and the maximum quantities and number of repeats that can be prescribed.

Part 4 defines quantities of pharmaceutical benefits that are used for pricing purposes.

Part 5 identifies drugs and pharmaceutical benefits that can only be supplied in particular ways.
