Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This is a formal legal notice (called a proclamation) that switches on part of a law.

What it does:

Sets 24 November 2012 as the date when Schedule 1 of the National Broadcasting Legislation Amendment Act 2012 comes into force
Without this document, that part of the law would sit dormant and have no legal effect

Who made it:

Signed by the Governor-General acting on government advice
Countersigned by the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy

Why it matters: Many laws don't start automatically when Parliament passes them. This document is the 'on switch' that tells everyone when the new broadcasting rules actually begin applying.
