Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Act formally scraps two older laws: the Motor Vehicle Engine Bounty Act 1939 (which paid subsidies for locally made engines) and the Motor Vehicles Agreement Act 1940.

What it does:

Removes obsolete legislation: Repeals the two Acts entirely, ending the bounty scheme and any government agreements made under the 1940 Act.
Protects existing rights: A specific company, Australian Consolidated Industries Limited, keeps any legal claims or entitlements it had against the federal government under those old laws. The company can still sue the government or enforce contracts as if the repeal never happened.

Why it matters: This is "legislative housekeeping" — cleaning up wartime-era industry assistance laws while ensuring that winding down these programs doesn't cheat one particular manufacturer out of money or legal rights it had already earned.
