Division 5—Duration of registration 26—Duration of registration (1) The registration of a motor vehicle commences— (a) on the day on which it is granted (or, if a permit is issued under section 16 after an application for registration of the vehicle is made but before the application is granted, the date of issue of the permit); or (b) if the registration is renewed on application made before the expiry of the previous registration—on the day after that expiry. (2) If the registration of a motor vehicle is renewed on application made after the expiry of the previous registration, the period for which the registration is renewed is to be calculated from the day after that expiry. (3) Subject to this Act, the registration of a motor vehicle expires on the last day of the period for which it was granted or renewed.
