98 Return of certificate, licence or permit upon cancellation (1) A person to whom a certificate of registration or a licence has been granted shall, forthwith upon receipt of a notification of the suspension or cancellation of the registration or licence: (a) return to the Registrar: (i) the certificate of registration or the licence, as the case may be; and (ii) every number plate issued by the Registrar in connection with the registration or licence, but not including any number plate which has already been returned to the Registrar; or Motor Vehicles Act 1949 75 (b) furnish to the Registrar a satisfactory reason for his failure to do so. (2) A person to whom a permit has been issued under section 107B shall, upon cancellation or suspension of the permit, return it to the Registrar, or furnish to the Registrar a satisfactory reason for his failure to do so. (3) A court finding a person guilty for an offence against subsection (1) may make an order directing: (a) that the person return to the Registrar within the period specified for that purpose in the order, any number plate in respect of which the offence is proved; and (b) that, in case of the person's neglect or refusal to do so, he shall be imprisoned for such time not exceeding 6 months as is specified for that purpose in the order.
