#### 169 Making of claims 169 Making of claims > > (1) A person may apply to the Secretary in writing for compensation under this Part. > > > (2) An application is to be accompanied by the information or documents (if any) specified by the regulations or that the Secretary requires in any particular case. > > > (3) A claim for compensation under this Part must be made— > > > > > (a) within 18 months after the loss is incurred or the claimant becomes aware of the loss, or > > > > > (a1) within 12 months of the claimant obtaining a judgment, order or other decision of a court or tribunal in relation to the loss if— > > > > > > > (i) the judgment, order or other decision was obtained within 18 months after the loss was incurred or the claimant became aware of the loss, and > > > > > > > (ii) the judgment, order or other decision has not been paid, or > > > > > (b) within such further period as the Secretary may in any case allow. > > **s 169:** Am 2023 No 28, Sch 1\[55\] \[56\] (am 2024 No 25, Sch 7.7\[1\] \[2\]).
