172Acquisition and sale of land

### 172 Acquisition and sale of land > > (1)  The Minister may acquire private land which is not the subject of a lease under the [Land Acquisition Act 1993](/view/html/inforce/2026-04-12/act-1993-023) for the purposes of this Act. > > > (2)  A purpose for which land is acquired under this section is a public purpose within the meaning of the [Land Acquisition Act 1993](/view/html/inforce/2026-04-12/act-1993-023) . > > > (3)  A person may apply for a mineral tenement in respect of land acquired under this section. > > > (4)  The Minister may sell land acquired under this section in accordance with [section 73 of the](/view/html/inforce/2026-04-12/act-1993-023#GS73@EN) [Land Acquisition Act 1993](/view/html/inforce/2026-04-12/act-1993-023) as if the Minister were an acquiring authority.
