Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This law defines which Australian education providers count as 'eligible educational institutions' for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485).

Key rule: Universities and other education providers qualify if they meet both of these conditions:

Listed on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) — the official government register for approved international education providers, and
Offer courses at degree level or higher (bachelor degrees, masters, doctorates, etc.).

Who it affects: International students applying for post-study work rights. Only graduates from these approved institutions can satisfy the educational requirements for the visa.

Why it matters: This ensures only reputable, government-registered higher education providers qualify for the graduate visa program, maintaining quality standards for Australia's international education sector.
