Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This document updates which organisations can provide expert opinions to verify family violence claims in visa applications.

What it does:

Removes Centrelink from the approved list of organisations
Adds the Department of Human Services to handle family violence claims that were already referred (before this change took effect)
Adds LSC Psychology to handle new family violence claims referred on or after this change

Why it matters: People applying for visas based on family relationships (such as partner visas) can continue their application if they experience family violence from their sponsor, even if the relationship ends. However, they need an independent expert to verify their claim. This document changes which organisations are authorised to provide that verification.

Key point: Claims referred before this instrument takes effect go to the Department of Human Services; claims referred after go to LSC Psychology.
