Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This notice sets the medical threshold for Australian carer visas: a person needing care must score at least 30 on the official Impairment Tables, as assessed by Health Services Australia, for a family member to qualify as their "carer" under migration law.

It affects visa applicants seeking to care for relatives with disabilities or serious conditions and works as a gatekeeper to reserve carer visas for substantial, not minor, impairments.
