Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This notice changes the rules for international students applying for certain Australian visas. Normally, student visa applicants must prove they can speak English (by taking tests like IELTS or TOEFL). However, this notice creates a specific exemption for three particular university degrees that are taught in Mandarin Chinese.

If you are applying for a visa to study one of these exact courses, you do not need to provide English language test results:

Master of International Management (Mandarin) at the Australian National University (Canberra); or
Master of Business Administration (China) at La Trobe University (Victoria); or
Master of Health Administration (China) at La Trobe University (Victoria).

The notice replaces an earlier list from May 2002. It only affects students enrolling in these specific postgraduate degrees. For all other university courses, the usual English language requirements still apply.
