Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This instrument lets certain permanent-visa applicants skip the government medical officer assessment when applying from specified “low‑risk” countries listed in Schedule A (examples: US, UK, Canada, many Western European nations, Japan, Singapore). It waives that specific medical-opinion requirement only if nothing in the application suggests the applicant would fail Australia’s health criteria. The change speeds processing for applicants from countries with robust health systems and low public‑health risk.
