Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document is a commencement proclamation — it acts like an "on switch" for a specific part of a law.

Under the Migration Legislation Amendment (Information and Other Measures) Act 2007, Part 1 of Schedule 1 officially begins on 1 May 2007 because of this proclamation.

Why this matters:

Australian laws often pass Parliament but lie dormant until a specific date is set.
This formal notice, signed by the Governor-General on 26 April 2007, activates those particular provisions.
Without such a proclamation, the amendments would remain inactive regardless of having passed Parliament.

This affects anyone dealing with migration procedures covered by Part 1 of Schedule 1, as the rules take legal effect from 1 May 2007.
