Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document is a commencement proclamation — a formal legal instrument that activates a previously passed Act of Parliament. Specifically, it sets 10 August 2001 as the date when the Migration Legislation Amendment (Electronic Transactions and Methods of Notification) Act 2001 comes into force.

Key points:

Signed by the Governor-General on 26 July 2001
Brings the Act into effect on 10 August 2001
Important exception: Items 1, 2, and 3 of Schedule 4 are excluded — they commence separately (or remain uncommenced by this instrument)

This is purely procedural; it doesn't change migration law itself, but rather tells the public and government agencies when the electronic transaction rules in the main Act begin to apply.
