Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This is a formal order by the Governor-General that switches on specific sections of the Migration Amendment (Protection and Other Measures) Act 2015.

What it does:

Sets 18 April 2015 as the official start date for three parts of the parent Act:
- Part 2 of Schedule 1
- Schedule 3
- Schedule 4

Why this matters: Laws often pass Parliament as a complete package, but different sections start (or 'commence') at different times. This proclamation is the legal trigger that activates these specific provisions on the chosen date, allowing changes to migration and protection visa rules to become enforceable.
