56 Factors to be considered before treatment is authorised In determining whether to authorise treatment under this Act, the Tribunal or authorised psychiatric practitioner must be satisfied that: (a) the treatment is in the best interest of the person; and (b) the anticipated benefits of the treatment outweigh any risk of harm or discomfort to the person; and
Mental Health and Related Services Act 1998 56 (c) alternative treatments that would be likely to produce equivalent benefits and with less risk of harm are not reasonably available; and (d) the treatment represents the least restrictive and least intrusive treatment option reasonably available.
