#### 10 Detention of voluntary patients in mental health facilities 10 Detention of voluntary patients in mental health facilities (cf 1990 Act, s 18A) > > (1) An authorised medical officer may cause a voluntary patient to be detained in a mental health facility under Part 2 of Chapter 3 if the officer considers the person to be a mentally ill person or a mentally disordered person. > > > (2) Any such patient is taken to have been detained in the facility under section 19 when the authorised medical officer takes action to detain the patient. > > > (3) A voluntary patient in a mental health facility may be detained for a period of up to 2 hours for the purpose of enabling an authorised medical officer to exercise the officer’s functions under this section. > > **s 10:** Am 2014 No 85, Sch 1 \[9\].
