Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This is a formal notice from the Governor-General that activates specific parts of the Marriage Amendment (Celebrant Administration and Fees) Act 2014.

What it does:
It sets 1 July 2014 as the date when Schedules 1 and 2 of that Act come into force (become law). These schedules contain the rules about how marriage celebrants are managed and the fees they must pay.

Who it affects:
• Marriage celebrants (civil and religious)
• The Attorney-General's Department (which oversees the celebrant program)

Why it matters:
Without this proclamation, the new administrative rules and fee structures for celebrants would remain inactive. This document officially "switches on" those specific changes on the appointed day.
