87 Hull identification number requirements
> > (1) A vessel registration certificate is not to be issued or transferred in respect of a vessel unless a hull identification number approved by Transport for NSW is affixed to the vessel in a form, manner and location that is in accordance with—
> >
> > > (a) International Standard No ISO 10087:2006, Small Craft—Craft identification—Coding system published by the International Organization for Standardization and as in force from time to time, or
> >
> > > (b) directions given in writing by Transport for NSW.

> > (2) This clause does not apply to a commercial vessel or a regulated Australian vessel or vessel regulated under the [Navigation Act 2012](http://www.legislation.gov.au/) of the Commonwealth.
>
> > (3) Despite subclause (1), a vessel registration certificate may, with the approval of the responsible regulator, be issued or transferred without a hull identification number being affixed to the vessel. It is a condition of vessel registration that the number is affixed to the vessel within the period specified in the approval.
