118 Detention of vessel for purposes of investigation
> > (1) An authorised officer may detain a vessel for the purposes of an investigation, but only for so long as is necessary for the purposes of the investigation.
>
> > (2) An authorised officer may not detain a vessel for more than 72 hours unless authorised to do so by order of a Judge of the Local Court. A judge may, on application by an authorised officer, make such an order if satisfied there is reasonable cause for doing so.
>
> > (3) The authorised officer may give the master or relevant owner (or any other person) any directions required for the purpose of detaining the vessel.
