• Record service method and conform to Legislation Act. The Legislation Act, pt 19.5 governs service mechanics (s 12 note). Authorised officers should document service details,how, when, and to whom notice was delivered,consistent with Legislation Act rules to support evidentiary needs later.

• Apply the corporate multiplier correctly. When issuing an infringement notice to a company entity, apply the fivefold corporate multiplier to the listed infringement amount when calculating the amount purportedly payable by the company (s 8(2)).

• Understand payment and contest options. The regulation and the Magistrates Court Act together permit settling an alleged breach by payment of the infringement amount (s 3 note; schedule 1; s 8(1)). Recipients should decide whether to pay the listed amount, to contest validity on procedural grounds if content or service is deficient, or to contest the factual merits in court. Seek legal advice in the event of uncertainty.

• Budget for corporate multiples and reminder costs. Corporate leaders should ensure finance teams factor the fivefold multiplier into exposure calculations and expect a $34 reminder cost if an initial infringement notice is ignored (s 8(2)-(3)).
