253 Transitional provision—Local Government Legislation Amendment (Rating and Other Matters) Act 2022 (1) The amendments made by section 6 of the **Local Government Legislation Amendment (Rating and Other Matters) Act 2022** do not apply to a declaration for special rates and special charges made before the commencement of that section. (2) Despite the commencement of sections 16 and 17 of the **Local Government Legislation Amendment (Rating and Other Matters) Act 2022**, if on or after the commencement of those sections— (a) interest is required to be paid under section 172; and (b) the Minister has not fixed a rate under section 172A, or the first rate fixed by the Minister under section 172A has not yet taken effect— interest is to be calculated in accordance with section 172(2) as in force immediately before the commencement of section 16 of the **Local Government Legislation Amendment (Rating and Other Matters) Act 2022**.
