20F Remission of penalties

(1) The Commissioner may, for reasons that he or she thinks sufficient, remit the whole or part of any amount payable by way of penalty under subsection 18A(4) or section 20D. (2) Where the Commissioner makes a decision to remit part only of an amount payable or not to remit any part of such an amount, the Commissioner shall give notice in writing of the decision to the person by whom the amount is, or but for the remission would be, payable. (3) Division 2 of Part V of the Assessment Act applies with appropriate changes in relation to the decision.
