Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Act authorised the Commonwealth to borrow £37.2 million to fund State public housing programs, raising the money via government bonds or Treasury Bills and restricting its use to loan costs and advances to the States.

It applied only to States party to the Commonwealth‑State housing agreement (or similar parliamentary authority) and mattered because it created a dedicated federal funding stream to address 1960s housing shortages and coordinate Commonwealth borrowing with State delivery.
