Plain English Summary

4/10 complexity

This Act lets the Treasurer borrow up to $1,800,000,000 during the 1979–80 financial year for defence purposes, using inscribed stock or Treasury bills. The money can only be used for borrowing costs and services listed under the “DEPARTMENT OF DEFENCE” in the 1979–80 supply/appropriation acts and is constrained so total outlays do not exceed the amounts those appropriation acts authorize.

The law is time‑limited: it does not authorise non‑borrowing expenditure after 30 June 1980.
