7Purpose and objectives

### 7 Purpose and objectives > > (1)  The purpose of this Act is to achieve sustainable development of living marine resources having regard to the need to – > > > > > > (a) increase the community's understanding of the integrity of the ecosystem upon which fisheries depend; and > > > > > > > (b) provide and maintain sustainability of living marine resources; and > > > > > > > (ba) [*\[Section 7 Subsection (1) amended by No. 45 of 1997, s. 6, Applied:13 Nov 1997\]*](/view/html/inforce/1997-11-13/act-1997-045#GS6@EN) take account of a corresponding law; and > > > > > > > (c) take account of the community's needs in respect of living marine resources; and > > > > > > > (d) take account of the community's interests in living marine resources. > > > (2)  A person must perform any function or exercise any power under this Act in a manner which furthers the objective of resource management.
