### 22 Inquiries > [*\[Section 22 Substituted by No. 7 of 2007, s. 11, Applied:30 Apr 2007\]*](/view/html/inforce/2007-04-30/act-2007-007#GS11@EN) > > > (1)  The Minister, by instrument in writing, may direct a qualified person to conduct an inquiry into a matter under this Act. > > > (2)  [Sections 8](/view/html/inforce/2026-04-12/act-1995-070#GS8@EN) and [33](/view/html/inforce/2026-04-12/act-1995-070#GS33@EN) , and [Part 3 of the](/view/html/inforce/2026-04-12/act-1995-070#HP3@EN) [Commissions of Inquiry Act 1995](/view/html/inforce/2026-04-12/act-1995-070) (other than [sections 17](/view/html/inforce/2026-04-12/act-1995-070#GS17@EN) , [18](/view/html/inforce/2026-04-12/act-1995-070#GS18@EN) , [19](/view/html/inforce/2026-04-12/act-1995-070#GS19@EN) and [23](/view/html/inforce/2026-04-12/act-1995-070#GS23@EN) of that Part) apply to the inquiry as if – > > > > > > (a) the qualified person conducting it were a Commission established under [section 4](/view/html/inforce/2026-04-12/act-1995-070#GS4@EN) of that Act; and > > > > > > > (b) the subject of the inquiry were the matter into which that Commission had been directed to inquire under that Act. > > > (3)  In this section – > > > > > ***qualified person*** means – > > > > > > > > (a) the Secretary; or > > > > > > > > > (b) a person who, in the Minister's estimation, has qualifications, expertise or experience relevant to the subject of the inquiry.
