This order removes the ban on exporting Merino sheep. It repeals (cancels) the previous Livestock Export (Merino) Orders, which had prohibited or restricted the export of Merino sheep from Australia.

What this means:

Before 1 January 2010: Merino sheep could not be exported under the old Orders.
From 1 January 2010 onwards: The ban is lifted, allowing exporters to apply to export Merino sheep again (subject to other export control laws).

The order was made by the Minister for Agriculture under the Export Control (Orders) Regulations 1982 and takes effect on 1 January 2010.

I, TONY BURKE, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, make these Orders under regulation 3 of the Export Control (Orders) Regulations 1982.

1 Name of Orders

These Orders are the Livestock Export (Merino) Repeal Orders 2009.

2 Commencement

These Orders commence on 1 January 2010.

3 Repeal

The Livestock Export (Merino) Orders are repealed.
