Plain English Summary

4/10 complexity

This instrument declares that, for domestic law under the EPBC Act, certain Loxodonta africana populations listed in CITES Appendix II are to be treated as if listed in Appendix I, effective 1 April 2017.

That tighter domestic classification affects Australian importers, exporters, traders, museums, researchers, owners and regulators by imposing stricter controls, higher compliance costs, possible market restrictions and administrative changes in permits, enforcement and border processing.
