Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does This legal instrument delays the automatic expiry (called sunsetting) of the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust Regulations 2001 by two years.

Background Under the Legislation Act 2003, most regulations automatically expire after 10 years unless reviewed. This keeps the law up-to-date by forcing regular review of old rules.

The change

Before: The regulations were scheduled to expire on 1 October 2019
After: They will now expire on 1 October 2021

Why it matters This deferral gives the government breathing room to review the regulations governing the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust—which manages former defence and industrial land around Sydney Harbour—without the rules suddenly vanishing. It prevents a legal gap while deciding whether to remake, amend, or scrap the regulations.

Self-destruct clause This certificate automatically cancels itself on 2 October 2021 (the day after the regulations finally expire).
