Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: This certificate gives the Jabiru Town Plan 1981 an extra year of life before it automatically expires.

Why it matters: Under Australian law, old legislative instruments "sunset" (automatically repeal themselves) after about 10 years unless action is taken. The Jabiru Town Plan was scheduled to sunset on 1 April 2019. This certificate pushes that expiry date back to 1 April 2020, keeping the existing town planning rules in place for another year.

Who it affects: Residents of Jabiru (a town in the Northern Territory) and anyone developing land there. It ensures planning controls don't disappear while the government works on a replacement scheme.

Self-destruct clause: The certificate itself vanishes on 2 April 2020—the day after the town plan finally sunsets.
