Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This certificate is a short, technical instrument that delays the automatic expiry (called 'sunsetting') of the Electronic Transactions Regulations 2000 by one year.

What it does:

Normally, older regulations are automatically repealed ('sunset') after 10 years unless reviewed and remade.
The Electronic Transactions Regulations were due to sunset on 1 October 2019.
This certificate pushes that expiry date back to 1 October 2020.
The certificate itself then self-destructs on 2 October 2020.

Who it affects:

This does not change any rules about electronic signatures, contracts, or transactions.
It simply keeps the existing Electronic Transactions Regulations operational for another year while the government reviews or remakes them.
Businesses and individuals can continue relying on the existing electronic transaction rules without disruption during this extension period.
