Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: This certificate delays the automatic expiry (called "sunsetting") of the Clean Energy (Consequential Amendments) Regulation 2012 by one year.

Why it matters: Under Australian law, most regulations automatically "sunset" (expire) after 10 years to ensure old laws don't stay on the books indefinitely. This instrument pushes back the expiry date from 1 April 2022 to 1 April 2023.

Key points:

It does not change the actual clean energy rules—only how long they remain in force.
It is made by the Attorney-General under the Legislation Act 2003.
The certificate itself disappears on 2 April 2023 (the day after the new expiry date).
