61  Purpose of this Part

The purpose of this Part is to set out directions about settling monetary claims. This Part does not confer any power to enter into arrangements or make commitments to spend public money on settling a monetary claim. Rather, it seeks to control the circumstances in which relevant arrangements are entered into or commitments are made.

These directions also work alongside the various statutory duties to which accountable authorities are subject under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013, including the duty in paragraph 15(1)(a) to promote the proper use and management of public resources.
