19 Categories of work not covered by the tied work rules
This Part does not affect the following:
(a) the in‑house work that was, as at the time these Directions were made, undertaken by entities in negotiating standard bilateral treaties (such as double taxation and social security agreements);
(b) in-house legal work undertaken by entities that identifies a tied work issue, or supports the entity’s engagement with a tied provider in respect of the issue;
(c) public international law work, where the Attorney‑General has approved the use of the agency’s in‑house legal area in the performance of that work;
(d) the role of the Solicitor‑General.
Note: For paragraph (a)—this captures the in‑house preparation of bilateral agreements on certain matters in a standard format which had already been the subject of international law advice from OIL, AGS or the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
