Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: These regulations set a dollar limit for how much the Australian Law Reform Commission can spend (or receive) when buying, selling, or leasing property without needing special approvals.

The $100,000 rule:

The Commission can independently handle property transactions worth up to $100,000
This covers buying assets, selling assets, and entering leases (the three activities mentioned in sections 30(a), (b) and (c) of the Law Reform Commission Act 1973)
Anything worth more than $100,000 presumably requires higher approval (such as from the Minister or Governor-General)

Who it affects:

Australian Law Reform Commission: The independent body that reviews Australian laws and recommends reforms. This lets them manage day-to-day property needs (like office equipment or vehicles) without bureaucratic delays.
Taxpayers: Ensures the Commission can't make major property decisions (buying buildings, expensive land) without oversight, while allowing flexibility for routine purchases.
