### 12 Excused by court for good reason
> > (1) The court, by order, may excuse the person from jury service –
> >
> > > > (a) for the whole or a part of a jury service period; or
> > >
> > > > (b) for a longer period specified by the court; or
> > >
> > > > (c) permanently.

> > (2) The court may make an order under [subsection (1)](#GS12@Gs1@EN) on referral to it by the Sheriff if the court is satisfied that there is good reason for the person to be excused from jury service.

> > (3) For the purpose of [subsection (2)](#GS12@Gs2@EN) , good reason includes the matters specified in [section 9(3)](#GS9@Gs3@EN) and [section 10(3)](#GS10@Gs3@EN) .
