236 of 1983

Collection

legislative instrument

Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This instrument removes (repeals) outdated election regulations that were created in 1930.

What it does:

Cancels the Joint Electoral (Commonwealth and New South Wales) Regulations (Statutory Rules 1930 No. 82)
These old regulations previously set out administrative rules for how the Commonwealth and New South Wales coordinated their electoral processes

Who it affects:

Election administrators and lawyers who maintain historical records of electoral law
The general public is largely unaffected, as these regulations were already obsolete and no longer governed current practice

Why it matters:

Cleans up the statute book by formally removing defunct rules that have been superseded by modern electoral legislation
Prevents confusion by ensuring only current, valid regulations appear in official records
