Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this law does:

This Act authorises the Australian Government to spend £23 million from the national budget (the Consolidated Revenue Fund) specifically to fund invalid and old-age pensions.

Key points:

The money: Twenty-three million pounds is appropriated (legally set aside) for disability support ("invalid") and retirement ("old-age") pensions.
Where it goes: The funds are paid into a special government account called the Invalid and Old-age Pensions Fund, which operates under auditing laws (the Audit Act 1901–1934).
Why it exists: This is a "supply" or budget law — it gives the government legal authority to withdraw money from the treasury to pay pensioners. Without this specific parliamentary approval, those payments couldn't legally be made.

In short: It’s a straightforward 1944 budget measure ensuring pensioners receive their payments.
